What's "Belhedi Trophy" ?

This award was introduced in November 2008 by CSA Ltd in order to commemorate the efforts of the swimmer who successfully conquers  the Channel on the highest tide each year . We consider this Channel swimming trophy as a permanent reminder of Tunisia’s first Channel swimmer and Nejib Belhedi’s swim in 1993, when he was the fastest swimmer on the highest tide of the year 6.75 metres. This trophy was presented for the first time this year and the first swimmer to hold it for 2008 is Kelvin Webster of the United States, who completed hi swim on a 6.53 metre tide, in 12 hours 31 minutes.

Investment and New Deal

The main purpose  of  "Belhedi Trophy" communication  is to get  this trophy event as "new deal and  investment for the future"  in order  to promote the Swimming Marathon in Tunisia in correlation with the  English Channel Challenge .

Today , our  pioneer initiative in Tunisia and in the Maghreban Region is growing with the cooperation  and encouragement of the Tunisian government and also by Mr Michael Read , the President of The Channel Swimming Association Ltd , the King of the Channel ( 33 Channel swims ) from a Tunisian solo swim Channel  Challenge to a project of Generation .

The" Dialog Across the Seas "Project

This project proposes to link  "Great Britain" with the Maghreban countries by  swimming  significant sea circuits ( The  English  Channel - Gibraltar Strait - Tipaza Sea - Tunisian seas (Kerkennah -Sfax for Mai 2009 ) and finally  the Golf of Syrt  .  Four elite Channel Swimmers  would  swim annually these waters routes  , by the way  National Swimmers will participate  too in their  respective countries  .  It is a sportive , cultural..... dialog between Euro med youth  encouraging and consolidating the" Dialog of Civilizations" by  developing Swimming Marathon as a sport discipline in accordance with our common  marine environment and history  .

 Many phases have been  accomplished to  concertize this project since November 2007 .  We are now taking Tunisia as "modal first platform" to perform the first edition of this project , so  later the project will be extended to the other Maghreb Countries .Kerkennah -Sfax is planned to be swam during the end of next May 2OO9 .
